rainy cycling

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2005.09.26

Today I got completely soaked cycling into work. It was just coming down in buckets. I've picked up some cycling rain pants recently, and they work fine - if you're willing to work up a sweat inside. Which I was - late September and in Toronto the rain's already pretty cold.

Some fellow I passed on Sherbourne street was toodling along on his bike while holding an umbrella. A photo would be the only way of doing it justice - a 50ish fellow teetering along on the soaked grey streets holding a grey umbrella might not be much of a pic in of itself, but with the context of the traffic and the empty sidewalks it might have worked.

Cycling home was a different story. The afternoon's sun was once again chased away by scary black cumolu-(wannabe-nimbus) but it never actually came down. Which was good because I went from work to the accountant's place, and I didn't want to risk my paperwork getting soaked (which I suppose I did anyway).

At the accountant's shop I learned that I wouldn't be paying any federal or provincial tax and would in fact only have to cough up for the GST I owed. Hooray for her "magic fingers".
