Fujisan

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Tokyo, 2005.07.27

I never really realized how hazy it is, here, until this morning. The typhoon that passed through seems to have scrubbed the air because I can now see a mountain range that is only maybe 10-15 kilometres away that I simply never guessed was there! And beyond that is the towering spectacle of Fujisan. What an enourmous mountain... My window looks out right at it, and I had no inkling that it was there.

Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces.
