movie review - Blade Trinity

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2004.12.21

This is the third in the Blade movies. And probably the best. It adds the humour that was largely absent from the first two. Combined with a (relatively) no-nonsense plot (the bad guys get to do more than squabble and stop bullets, this time around) this stops the movie from taking itself so seriously and becoming a cringefest like "the Matrix" movies (which have a number of similar stylistic elements).

As usual, the supporting cast is liberally populated with hip types who look good in a designer outfit. Not all of them get as much screen time as you might expect, but this was likely done to keep the plot lean.

A decent action flick, though I have no idea how it might stand on its own outside of the trilogy.

Recommended.

rand()m quote

I feel fortunate that I enjoyed the blandishments of modernity. I had hip replacement and root canal. I was able to travel on airplanes. I was able to take cheap food for granted. I went to the movies. I enjoyed rock 'n' roll. And now I'm ready to move on.
