twenty-seven years and one million words

Halifax, 2004.04.06

I went to an all-hands meeting at work today, where we were given some momentous news that set off a flurry of questions. I like our management team, I have to say – they're very forthcoming and candid and they're not afraid to ask for input. I wonder why it is that so many managers/execs are just the opposite. The news itself was big enough that I'm once again all up in the air with regards to my plans.

Also in the meeting was a session of awards to various staffers who'd done good. I got an award for a full-day stint I'd pulled on a Saturday a couple of weeks back. We're not paid overtime, so I suppose you could see it - as my friends did - that the $10 coupon that came with the award was my pay for those ten hours. It's a nice gesture, though.

One of the other groups won a $100 gift certificate at a restaurant. There are nine guys in that group, and they're all on continuous shift. I'm not sure when they'll get a chance to go to that dinner together!
