a day for results

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Halifax, 2004.02.04

Today was a bit of a banner day. The explosive email that I sent out yesterday about the 28oC air temperature in the office got some results. The facilities manager got an engineer in from the building management, and they found a number of problems.

Then at noon the fellow came from the movers and repaired the furniture that had gotten broken (and in one case, lost then broken).

Then I actually managed to accomplish something at the office - my first project is getting off the ground during my fifth week. Which is actually not bad for a permanent job.

Then I went down to the gov'ts offices and got myself a nova scotia driver's license in the space of maybe twenty minutes. Just in and out, without any mailing or anything. And when I got back to my building, the manager told me that my name had come up on 'the list', and that I'd be getting a storage unit for my ~40 boxes. W'hoo!

rand()m quote

It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.
