movie review - The Good Thief

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2003.11.15

This is a caper flick starring Nick Nolte. I understand that the man actually took to using heroin to prepare for the roll he had in this movie. I'm not impressed, and I wasn't terribly impressed with this movie either.

It suffered from a bit of the same 'overly clever' writing that all movies in this genre do (see 'Heist' by David Mamet). And it featured a truly ridiculous run of good luck at the casino that in effect saves the day - deus ex machina on film, oh boy.

Not recommended.

rand()m quote

It's difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.
