employment insurance won't pay the bills

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2003.11.13

Today I noticed a deposit into my chequeing account. My first unemployment cheque has arrived. It's for a depressingly small amount. All those years of paying in for $100/week? I guess it's certainly better than nothing.

I feel fortunate that I enjoyed the blandishments of modernity. I had hip replacement and root canal. I was able to travel on airplanes. I was able to take cheap food for granted. I went to the movies. I enjoyed rock 'n' roll. And now I'm ready to move on.
