get on with it

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2003.09.13

It seems that Lee Salem, an apparatchik at Universal Press Syndicate, couldn't be brought to spell out the word 'masterbate' in a recent UPS fatwa against a recent Doonesbury strip, and went with 'm-word'. As something of a 'frequent flyer' of masturbation, I can only hope that Lee overcomes this hang-up. Because writing 'masturbate' is almost as easy as doing it, if you can only loosen up.

Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
