doing sales calls

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-five years and one million words

Toronto, 2003.09.04

I've been making sales calls to ISP's across the country to try to drum up some business. It's interesting work, though I wouldn't be able to do it for a lifetime.

One thing that really strikes me is the incredible variety of companies that call themselves ISP's. Some simply provide dial-up or high-speed connectivity to residential clients. Some *only* do stuff like server co-location for big corporate hosts.

rand()m quote

The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself.

—Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
