bring on the Poynter sisters

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2003.05.30

I believe the Poynter sisters are having something of a renaissance. I heard one of their songs in a bar about three weeks ago, but put it down to someone abusing the juke box; there had been a string of 80's 'rock' playing. Then a few days later I read that they were actually touring. Then a couple of days later I heard one of their songs playing somewhere, but again it was the sort of place you could put down to programming or a retro CD or something.

Then two days ago I heard one of their songs on the radio. It's funny, when you remember a group that had a string of hits and then vanished for 15 years.

I see two positive things from this:

1) they really weren't all that bad

2) it could signify that we might just skip the slip into a full-on disco revival. I worry about that happening, because the auto manufacturers have re-introduced orange cars, and I've seen some disturbingly plaid-like suits around.
