poorly attended anti-war rally

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2003.03.30

I went down to the anti-war demonstration demonstration today. The turnout was dismal. I'm not sure if it's because Toronto is one of the three worst centres for the outbreak of SARS in the world, but people were staying away in droves.

In a charming aside, I saw some pro-USA people with an American flag get charged by the anti-war faction and shouted down and booed and whatnot. The couple with the flag had to flee. Some peace movement. 8(

Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces.
