movie review - Daredevil

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2003.02.13

Let's see how short I can make this review: here goes.

Daredevil: predictable crap.

There, done in three words. Actually, the only surprise I got from this was seeing Canada's now-retired former leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition at the cinema. He's a fellow named Preston Manning, and he founded a new party back in the 80's that promoted things like a referendum on abortion. American-style right-wing stuff. The party that eventually re-formed out of the party he founded (confusingly, named the Reform Party) is recently languishing at about 7.5% in the polls, at less than half of the union-run party of the 'left'. In Canada, there is no real opposition. I digress, but you don't need to know anything more about Daredevil I assure you.

Not recommended.

Satire is tragedy plus time. You give it enough time, the public, the reviewers will allow you to satirize it. Which is rather ridiculous, when you think about it.
