hello, Osgiliath

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Osgiliath, 2002.12.28

Today the Ottawa contingent, my mum, and I went to the Museum of Civilization in Hull to see the Bog People exhibit. The place was packed, and the text in the exhibit was difficult to make out, but it was still worth the while. The brutish lives people lived, and the care they went to to extract some level of comfort (even finery) were really something. We did a quick zip through the Canada level of the museum as well, which has seen some changes since me previous visits.

Then we went to Kanata, where I almost lived, once, and saw the second installment of the Lord of the Rings. It was fantastic, of course, everything that the awful Star Wars movies could/should have been. Adventurous, heroic, shot with amazing scenes and featuring artificial characters that were really characters, not just scribbles.

My cousin Julie is a big fan of the story, and she and my mum and my aunt Maureen and I all discussed the details all the way back to Osgoode, which I took to calling Osgiliath after that.

Over the long term the only alternative to Risk Management is Crisis Management. Crisis Management is much more embarrassing, expensive, and time consuming.
