In my early thirties, I was unemployed and living in Vancouver in the hiring doldrums after 9/11. I'd go out in the evenings with my camera and try things.

I once posted this photo online and some people refused to believe that I made it by "zooming" the lens. They insisted that I'd somehow edited it.
