Sangria in the park

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Vancouver, 2002.06.03

Had a great weekend. Charlie came on Friday, and he and Heidi and Ken and I spent the weekend enjoying the steady sunshine. Saturday, Charlie and I walked the seawall (a first for him), while Heidi did her plant ID course down in Langley. That afternoon, we drank Sangria and the park, and later (when it got dark) we went home. On Sunday, Ken even ran part of a marathon while I tried to help out with Ms Yoon's instructions to her son that he was to find a Korean wife here in the city.

No sooner was the weekend over than I had a couple of phone interviews for a contract in Calgary. Both went well, I think. They sounded like decent people to work with, which is a refreshing change. The second interview was with a techie who shared a number of my opinions on various technologies; I suppose that's an encouraging sign.

rand()m quote

In the wake of 9/11, we [in America] have made the decision as a society that we can never again create something in which we can take pride, for fear that someone will destroy it. Moreover, we must suppress any trace of individualism, lest someone have the desire to rise above the bland sameness that protects us. I have, alas, no idea how to recapture our courage.
