Calgary is just tiring and libertarians are morons

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Calgary, 2002.05.06

So, I went 'into town' to get my roll of b + w film from our trip to SW Alberta, battling the remaining 20 cm of snow in the 'carriageway' and the dimwit drivers (snow, wet conditions? Faster! Faster!). I picked up the roll (for which I paid $22 for the pleasure of dust marks all over my prints and one scratched negative) and wandered out to find a barber shop.

I found one, spent 45 minutes in his place listening to typical the-east-done-us-wrong the whole time despite the fact that two of us clientele were from T'ranna and the third was a Maritimer. Buddy reckoned that he shouldn't have to pay taxes for other people's children to go to school. I asked if those kids didn't get an education, how could they pay for haircuts and he was shocked. He's also a landlord, so I guess he figures his tenants don't need an education either. Honestly, Calgary is just tiring and libertarians are morons.

Anyhoo, got back to dad's car five minutes after my meter had expired, but there was no ticket in sight. Then there was a dash up to the bank to see if I could make my line of credit payment in time. Whoops, missed that a week ago. Ha ha, this running around sure takes its toll; I've broken what routine I did manage to establish in Vancouver.

Ach, these are the headlines on my news site today:

Chinese Plane Crashes Into Sea, at Least 60 Dead

Suicide Bomber Kills 15 People in Israel-Police

Ottawa Casts More Doubt on Kyoto Ratification

EgyptAir Plane Crashes in Tunis; at Least 20 Dead

rand()m quote

Though defensive violence will always be a sad necessity in the eyes of men of principle, it would be still more unfortunate if wrongdoers should dominate just men.
