five job leads dead

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Vancouver, 2002.02.15

I managed to finally get a-hold of some of the people with whom I've been chasing job leads. I managed to get word that one way or another, no fewer than five of them were dead. One hire cancelled, two hires frozen, one place that's decided to only 'hire' for new positions internally, and one turned out to be somewhere I couldn't commute to and wouldn't move to.

rand()m quote

It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.

—John Steinbeck, Cannery Row
