a visit by dad

twenty-seven years and one million words

Vancouver, 2001.09.29

Dad arrived (by bus!) last night, and we spent the day toodling about the rainy city. He and I did the walk around Stanley Park, then met up with Ken and Heidi for lunch. I had my first steak since I've returned (at a place on Denman St. where you can get a NY sirloin for $9!), and I was reminded of how good Canadian beef is.

The Aussies have excellent seafood, and the chicken tastes better down there, but the closest I had to a decent steak was at the RSL, and that's saying something! I've heard others from N. America have had the same experience down there, and I can't figure it out.

After that we walked over to Granville island and looked into some art supply places and fruit markets. I shot some pics of the latter, and we headed over to the Space museum to have a look. Then back to the West End for drinks at the Sylvia Hotel, and dinner at this great Ukrainian place on Denman St. Even the steak at lunch couldn't prevent me from eating a massive meal of lamb's shanks...
