gov't conspiring for my dollars

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Vancouver, 2001.08.17

Yesterday I went to the 'driver's services' thing downtown to try and get a BC driver's license. It turns out that I need my birth certificate. No big deal, I have one. But because I had a new driver's license issued when I returned to Ontario, I had to call a number in Ontario to have a statement of standing issued. I was rerouted to their website, where I eventually found the appropriate link, and was told "That's $12, Mac." Lousy government conspiracies!

rand()m quote

It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.
