finding a home in a new city

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Vancouver, 2001.06.28

I saw three apartments today. Two in the 'west end', one in 'Kits'. Much to my delight, the process is so relaxed that you can see a new ad in the paper, call them, and it hasn't disappeared, yet (unlike the case in Toronto).

Here's a feature in Vancouver apartment hunting. The building management typically doesn't post apartment vacancies. They just place a sign in the lawn, and wait for people to come around and see the place.

Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces.
