LGBT Mardi Gras is a lot of fun

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Sydney, 2001.03.03

We went to the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade again this year. We were down in the hetero section of the crowd, which was a disheartening event. Unlike last year, when we lived just off of Taylor Square and were partying with people who had a real interest in the events (e.g. homosexuals and their admirers, I suppose), it was actually a lot of fun. Down at the Hyde Park end, it was just drunken teenage boys and girls dropping their beer bottles and throwing their empties at the paraders. How depressing. We went and caught Pay it Forward at the cinema on George St. Good flick.

Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
