movie review - All About My Mother

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Sydney, 2001.02.02

Today, Sara and I went to see "All about my Mother" at the outdoor cinema by Lady Whatsit's Chair, along with Jo and Rob. We got our tickets and went into the fenced-in area around the screen, long before it was starting. Realizing we couldn't drink our wine inside the 'theater', we decided to leave again and come back. To do so, we needed to collect our 'pass out' cards from the attendant. God the Aussies mangle this language!

We sat on the grass and swapped stories. Rob says that rabbits, when plucked up by their ears, make a screaming sound that sounds just like a human baby.

The flick was pretty good. It couldn't be Almodovar without a fair bit of trans- this and trans-that.

Recommended.
