movie review - Girl Interrupted

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Sydney, 2001.01.15

This movie surprised my, mildly. It has an interesting premise - about a girl sent to a psychiatric ward following a diagnosis of 'borderline personality disorder', and her eventual path to release. But fails to deliver. The pacing is erratic, and the plot a little too meandering. I imagine it was based on a better book. Overall, fairly forgettable. Ryder actually performs, for once, so it's not a complete write-off.

Not recommended.
