Toronto again

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2000.12.07

Just arrived in Toronto.

I saw the Sun rise in Sydney this morning at about 5:30. Then we flew (13 hours) to L.A. In doing so, we crossed the international date line going east, and back into the 6th of December. The flight is supposedly the world's longest; certainly, several hours passed. All the while, we were travelling with the world's spin, so that the Sun was racing around the planet in the opposite direction. We plunged into nightfall, and touched down in the dark. We wound up landing in L.A. before dawn on the 7th. So we saw the Sun rise in L.A. at about 6:30 on the 7th.

Two sunrises on one 'day'. Bizarre. And wonderful.

We surprised Sara's parents with our news (which we've kept a secret). Next it's my mum's turn.
