movie review - The Dish

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Sydney, 2000.11.04

This flick is about the Aussie and American team that ran the relay dish in rural Australia that had the good fortune to carry the tranmissions from Apollo 11 during the moon landing. It's done with the same human touch as flicks like The Full Monty, and has a nicely timed - if simple - plot that keeps you glued to it. And it explains why the famous moon-walk footage we've all seen starts with Armstrong just about to step down to the planet; all of the stations but the Aussie one were out of commission, and the Aussie one was operating in 60kmph winds!

Recommended.
