movie review - Supernova

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Sydney, 2000.09.24

I was somehow expecting more from this film. It's a Sci-Fi flick set somewhere in the next few centuries, and features the crew of a medical emergency response spacecraft. The crew responds to an SOS, and walks into trouble when they find the source of the call. A man with incredible strength, regenerative powers, and speed. The regenerative powers in particular are useful, because he's just such a bastard, the crew can't help but try to hurt him by cutting off the odd arm or blowing holes in his head with surgical utensils.

Definately scores some points for its general plot - including a finale that smacks of being written by an actual author. But loses as many for the whole middle-to-end bit, in which the initial tension is discarded and a wham-bang action film derails what might have been a worth-while flick.

Not recommended.
