movie review - Galaxy Quest

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

This is a space spoof on the Star (trek|wars) movies, and it's very funny in its own right (if my staunchly non-'Star (trek|wars)'-fan fiancee's reaction was any indication). It's a fast-paced flick, too, and features quite a bit of action for what is essentially a cutting send-up of all the tired Star Trek convention and re-hashed actor syndrome. The superb cast all shows up to play and it's an engaging classic that I'd sooner watch than any of the Star Trek movies.

Strongly recommended.

rand()m quote

In the wake of 9/11, we [in America] have made the decision as a society that we can never again create something in which we can take pride, for fear that someone will destroy it. Moreover, we must suppress any trace of individualism, lest someone have the desire to rise above the bland sameness that protects us. I have, alas, no idea how to recapture our courage.
