livin' in Sydney

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Sydney, 2000.02.10

We've been staying in a hotel, but have found a furnished apartment to stay in. Pricey, but room enough to really live in.

Sydney is an incredible city. The place is hopping due to the upcoming Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, the weather is great, there is an overwhelming amount of sites to see, and there's generally such a relaxed atmosphere here, even though the place is busy.

We headed into the old part of the city and saw something odd for a busy city center: two models standing around wearing tiny bikini bottoms and body paint and that's it. They were involved in some kind of promotion and the paint made them appear clothed.

rand()m quote

In the wake of 9/11, we [in America] have made the decision as a society that we can never again create something in which we can take pride, for fear that someone will destroy it. Moreover, we must suppress any trace of individualism, lest someone have the desire to rise above the bland sameness that protects us. I have, alas, no idea how to recapture our courage.
