movie review - The Mask of Zorro

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 1999.02.20

Not too good. Amusing, but irritating. Hopkins is Zorro. He passes on a necklace to too children who save his life during a brawl with some Spanish occupiers. Years later - after breaking free of 20 years of misery in prison - he chances upon one of the children, who grew up to be none other than Antonio Bandares. He takes Bandares under his wing, who trains to be the new Zorro. It's all set against a very dubious history of the south west. The lead chick is certainly winsome.

Not recommended.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
