movie review - The Wedding Singer

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 1998.05.21

This movie is about a loser in life who is struggling to get it right. The entire thing feels like a series of scenes stitched together to let the lead run wild. Adam Sandler really doesn't do it for me. I saw this with a friend from work who professed a good deal more interest than I've ever mustered for the fellow. A two-hour version of Sandler's SNL work is not for me. I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about.

Not recommended.

Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces.
