movie review - The Michelle Apartments

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 1997.01.31

This kinky little Ontario-filmed and produced film follows the hero (Henry Czerny) through a few days in a small town filled with the type of aren't-we-sleazy characters you expect to find in a Canadian film. Amusing and unpredictable, it somehow pulls its punches on the tension and the sex and feels more made-for-TV or direct-to-video than major cinema release. I can watch Czerny in just about anything, but don't need to see this again.

Not recommended.

rand()m quote

I feel fortunate that I enjoyed the blandishments of modernity. I had hip replacement and root canal. I was able to travel on airplanes. I was able to take cheap food for granted. I went to the movies. I enjoyed rock 'n' roll. And now I'm ready to move on.
