Vancouver, 2001.09.02This is another attempt at the shot across English Bay, with a much longer exposure time. I think this shot was exposed for about four minutes. I was timing it to the music I was listening to. In this case, Gel, by Collective Soul. It's a little over-exposed, and the colours are distorted somewhat (though I think this comes from the street lights).
One thing that seemingly had no effect whatever on this shot was my use of a flashilght during its exposure. I was panning back and forth across the sand in the foreground for thirty seconds or so. There's no real indication of this at all. The light that you see on the sand almost entirely comes from the moon. The overcast sky was reflecting reddish light from the street-lamps. What an awful effect.
An interesting feature is the bright arc that appears over the horizon to the right. I'm not sure, but I think I may have conclusive proof of the Chupacabra/UFO conspiracy formerly confined to Mexico city. Below is a close look at that segment of the film (if HP ever did one thing right, it was the S20 PhotoSmart scanner; God knows it wasn't HP-UX).

You see? A chupacabra-pilotted UFO!
