wrecked ship, Halifax harbour

Location: Canada

This unfortunately dark shot shows an even more unfortunate boat. The thing is an old American sailing ship that was docked in Halifax when Juan hit. It was sunk during the hurricane, and had to be lifted out of the water, had its hull repaired, and now sits rotting.Outrageously, it wasn't the hurricane itself that sunk it. The Canadian naval vessel moored beside it was left unmanned during the hurricane, and the thing broke its mooring and ramed the older wooden boat. A big gash was torn in the side of this one, and it quickly sank. Into the 'open sewer' conditions of this part of the harbour (I was standing atop a sewer outlet when taking this shot).Halifax doesn't treat its sewage, apparently. I'm sure the American owner(s) thought they were visiting the third world.
