During the August, 2003, power blackout ini eastern North America, the subway system in Toronto wasn't running. Many people caught downtown had to hike back up to where they lived. Many of these people were wholly unprepared, for instance women with high-heeled shoes. The drinking fountains did a booming business. Happily there was water pressure even without electricity.
