Torii no ichi no omatsuri

Location: Tokyo

We attended a matsuri, or festival, in an east-end neighbourhood called Torii no ichi. The spirit of the festival was for the local shopkeepers, and thousands of them were lined up to have their shops blessed with prosperity for another year. Those of us who weren't there for blessings were there to do things like enjoying the local delicacies (see, the shopkeep's prayers were already working) and drinking awful nihonshu (the stuff that is called 'sake' or 'saki' in Western sushi shops) in some fellow's garage. It was a fine time indeed. One of my last booze-ups before being a father and putting aside all that nonsense. (e_e)
