one cms to rule them all

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2023.03.15

I've just noticed that I have continuous recordings of edits to this website's page dating back to this time in 2008. That's fifteen years with a stable CMS. The first pages date to a decade before that, and the journal itself a year or two earlier than that. But the content management system (CMS) has been more or less as is for a long time indeed. I've never named it. Because that would imply that it's a product. And then I'd have to rewrite it.

Which is not to say that I haven't been tinkering with it this whole time. I'm slowly moving back to Perl if you can believe it. Because PHP is becoming somehow worse than it was twenty years ago and Perl is still Perl sweet Perl.

rand()m quote

Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.
