movie review - Goosebumps (2015)

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2021.09.18

We watched this with the kids. It's about the villains from dozens of horror novels being released into a generic American city by some teenagers. It's friendly fare for younger kids, because not a lot is really ever at stake and there's little more violence than some freeze-ray stuff and endless car explosions. And I have to say it was one of the least annoying performances I've seen from Jack Black. It was fun and ridiculous.

Recommended.

rand()m quote

In the wake of 9/11, we [in America] have made the decision as a society that we can never again create something in which we can take pride, for fear that someone will destroy it. Moreover, we must suppress any trace of individualism, lest someone have the desire to rise above the bland sameness that protects us. I have, alas, no idea how to recapture our courage.
