movie review - Constantine

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2021.02.23

It's been many years since I was happily surprised by this gritty Angles-and-Demons flick featuring a human who has learned many occult secrets and now spends his unhappy days fighting "Lu"cifer and his minions. When I say gritty I mean frequently gory and at times astonishingly nasty. These things never make a tonne of sense, but it's a satisfying story that overcomes the number of moving parts and the crushing gruesomeness.

I really enjoy this piece. Keanu Reeves is somehow perfect for the role, though he neither looks like the character in the comics books nor is he British. The entire scene where Lucifer himself makes an appearance just has to be seen, so I'll put it right here.

Recommended. Whoo, it's been fifteen+ years.
