movie review - Ex Machina

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2020.03.10

This is an unpleasant movie about a reclusive genius and tech billionaire who has been dabbling in artificial intelligence androids - to make women to keep under his thumb. It's told from the view of one of his staff who wins a lottery to visit the recluse's home. Will the visitor develop real feelings for his favorite artificial woman? Will a struggle ensue? Whither the beautiful sex-slave?

Who cares! The ending is telegraphed well before the middle of this thing, and the answers are yes, yes, and yes of course. I'll give them credits for nice cinematography but I noticed something was off with the movie-making before the guest even arrived at the house. There was just something about the dialogue or the interactions or something.

Not recommended.

Capitalist production, therefore, only develops the techniques and the degree of combination of the social process of production by simultaneously undermining the original sources of all wealth – the soil and the worker.
