games of thrones WTF

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2019.04.30

I've been watching "Game of Thrones" but I've been struggling to endure the increasingly dilute signal-to-noise ratio as the writers have clearly decided to sprint this "saga" to the finish line. In this week's episode the shambling zombies finally arrived to invade the home/castle of our heroes and the whole thing played out so stupidly I regret having seen it. Or, for that matter, any of the past few seasons, hoping that what was happening wasn't happening. I admit it, I fell into what one friend calls the "Lost" trap; where it starts off original and engaging and descends into self-mockery. I caught "Lost" before over-investing, but he didn't and he learned by avoiding the new "Battlestar Gallactica", which conversely I rode into the ground.

There are only three or four episodes left but I'm out. Done.

The defenders put siege engines outside the castle walls and in front of the soldiers. Done. Done.

rand()m quote

It's weird, man. People can watch a movie where thousands of people die in a war and not a tear. Yet one collie dies .. and the entire nation collapses with grief.
