13 years in Toronto

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2017.04.21

Last month, I passed the sum of 13 years spent living in Toronto. The current stretch has been 6 1/2 years as of this month, meaning I've been here as long as the previous three times put together.

I suppose Toronto feels like home to my kids. My wife says it does to her, as well. I still miss Tokyo and while I know Tokyo is not as good a place as Toronto is for raise kids (on a few measures!) I still haven't had that "a-ha" moment with this city. I seem to stay because it's where I can (or could) find work. Is that enough?

rand()m quote

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are good people and bad people. You're wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.

—Terry Pratchett (as Lord Vetinari)
