unsubscribing from things

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2017.03.13

The new year is ten weeks old, and I have unsubscribed from 22 email things. I wouldn't have guessed I'd have that many to get rid of. Here's what I've found so far: I miss none of it. I'm regaining time I was losing during the work day, and I'm better able to focus. Yes, it narrows my field of view substantially, but with so many things on the go I really was slipping on real emails from real people, and that's just absurd.

(Sadly, I can no longer read enough Japanese to figure out how to opt out of the two Japanese-language subscriptions that have plagued me for the past six+ years. But that's a different story.)
