movie review - The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2015.09.27

I thoroughly loved this story, based on an old poem, about a day-dreamer who is forced by a crisis at work to embark on a global adventure to track down a very larger than life photographer. Our hero has to verify the provenance of a single photo and winds up trekking in the Himalayas, free-diving from a helicopter into the North Atlantic during a storm, and riding a long-board down a highway on the flank of an erupting volcano.

A favorite. Easily the best film I've seen this year. Strongly recommended.

In a meta-comment (that I usually like to avoid) the star of this thing also directed and co-produced this masterpiece.

(If you want proof, track down the long-board scene. Amazing.)

A lot of people lose the spirit of childhood. Every child has a lot of imagination and you lose it little by little. I don't know why, but I kept it.
