and the weather has broken

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2013.07.19

For once I got really lucky with the weather. I was carrying home a laptop for study purposes this weekend (it has the practice quiz software for my upcoming CIA exam) and made it home just before six. Mere minutes later, the sky really opened up. It was some of the hardest rain I've ever seen in this city, turning the air that silver semi-solid way that it gets in a typhoon in Tokyo (though much more briefly).

I doubt I was home even ten minutes.

rand()m quote

The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself.

—Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
