明けましておめでとうございます

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2008.01.01

Happy New Year, everyone. We had Jon and Manami-san over for dinner, then went to a small pub on the "wrong side of the tracks". It was amusing. They gave us nihonshyu at midnight, meaning that my vow only lasted a minute or two into the new year. Then of course it was off to a shrine to put in a good word. It occurred to me that my wishes at the various shrines I've attended in the past couple of years have all been answered. Specifically, I was sending off good thoughts for two people in my family whose health was flagging, and they've both turned around considerably.

I've assembled another year's resolutions, and I have to say I'm shooting for the stars this year. But, I did pretty well on last year's resolutions, so why not.

rand()m quote

I feel fortunate that I enjoyed the blandishments of modernity. I had hip replacement and root canal. I was able to travel on airplanes. I was able to take cheap food for granted. I went to the movies. I enjoyed rock 'n' roll. And now I'm ready to move on.
