return of the novel

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2005.05.24

I managed to spend two solid hours on my novel, today. I worked through one of the sections I hope will be funny (rather than unintentionally funny, as with the rest). It was a chapter on an extended office "working meeting" designed to depict many things: the main character's inability to just get along; the disjoint between worker bees and the real goings on in any organization; the dismal way in which things are communicated within organizations. It's also supposed to provide some comic relief, because the next (extensive) section is pretty dry.

I think it might need another read, still. But it's fun work, so I'm not complaining.

rand()m quote

Capitalist production, therefore, only develops the techniques and the degree of combination of the social process of production by simultaneously undermining the original sources of all wealth – the soil and the worker.
