remembrance day

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2004.11.11

So I didn't get to the Remembrance Day ceremony downtown this morning. Just couldn't get going, thanks to the leftovers of this cold I've struggling with. Dang, I lied to a member of Parliament!

I watched the national one that took place in Ottawa on the CBC, instead. They said that they had a record crowd out for the ceremony this year, and that the trend has been for ever-increasing turnout. I'm not sure what is going on in the country, but I think that we're seeing a long-overdue resurgence in support for our armed forces, at last.

About time. I for one am sick of hearing the frustrated tales of woe from former members of our armed forces. This country has a respectable military history - one that is actually honourable - and somehow we turned our back on it.

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.
