bison steak

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Okotoks, 2002.04.27

I had bison steak today at a place in Okotoks which, fifteen years ago, had been the Lazy L. The place we always went to with the gliding crowd at Cu-Nim when they were heading into town. Mmmm, Bison steak. It was good; nice amount of fat; tasted somewhat like beef but tougher and 'gamey'.

It sure was an amazing night for wildlife. We saw an owl with a wingspan of maybe a metre just on the southern edge of the town about half an hour after sunset. And there seemed to be a pack of coyotes tearing into something just out of sight south of the highway; I've never heard so many of the things!

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.
