movie review - From Hell

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Vancouver, 2001.11.04

This is a movie about Jack the Ripper. It's got a heroine addict as a protagonist, a prostitute with a heart of gold, and Robbie Coltrane. Sprinled with some extremely unpleasant scenes, and shot almost entirely at night in London's Whitechapel district, it's one damn dark film.

It's well paced, well cast, and the plot even managed to surprise me. Good flick.

Recommended.
