bird crisis and a hero

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Vancouver, 2001.10.23

I was walking along the street today (yes, drifting about on the street in the middle of a work day, what can I say I am unemployed) when I heard a commotion. I looked up and saw this family of birds in crisis. The parents have a break while one baby hung by its wing, screaming, from a corner of the room.

What, o what, would happen?

Well, this being Vancouver, I wasn't the only person in earshot of this incident. So what happened? Someone in the building came out and rescued the bird.

The way you write science fiction is: you sit down at your writing machine and you open your mind to the first thought that comes through. My first thought was always a cigarette.
